Saltram is a beautiful Georgian mansion with an incredible range of habitats to see including an estuary, woodland meadows, and salt marshes. There are lots of dog-friendly walking routes around this park, including a circular route which starts and finishes in the car park and takes you to the River Plym banks.
The City Centre Wildlife Trail offers one of the easiest ways to walk your dog around Plymouth. This 2-mile trail will take you around the city centre and up to the waterfront. You can also make your way to the Plymouth Hoe on a leisurely circular route.
The Waterfront Walkway is packed with fun features and quirky art installations. This walkway is part of the South-West Coast Path – a 630-mile route from Poole to Minehead. The acorn signs around Plymouth mark the trail so your dog will not lose their way.
This huge circular route takes in the majority of the city’s green and gorgeous spaces. This may seem a bit intimidating for your dog but it is more of smaller paths joined together. You could try the whole route with your dog or perhaps just pick a section and walk from one point to another.
Plym Valley Trail is one of the most picturesque green spaces in Plymouth. Plymbridge woods is a giant swathe of lush woodland that is perfect for dog walking. As you wander through the woods, you will see traces of railways and mines.
The Laira Heritage Trail is a short but sweet route along the estuary banks. The path from Laira Bridge will take you towards the wildflowers of Blagdon’s Meadow. The path starts on the eastern side of the Laira Bridge and finishes about a kilometre north of the entrance to Blangdon’s Meadow.
The Central Park is the largest park in Plymouth and anyone living in Mutley, Peverell, or Stoke will practically find themselves next door to this park. With its big rolling fields and vantage point of view, it is the perfect place for dog walking.
This was one of the first National Parks and is easily accessible from Plymouth. Provide your dog with a good introduction to the area with short walks from the National Park Visitor Centres at Princetown, Postbridge, and Haytor.
